About Xeomin

If you are of a certain age, you may be realizing that the facial wrinkles caused by smiling, frowning, squinting, and laughing are staying even after your face has relaxed. These lines are actually called dynamic wrinkles, and they're caused by the facial muscles contracting and forming etched lines in the skin. Xeomin is an injectable wrinkle relaxer that, like BOTOX, temporarily relaxes the facial muscles with a strain of purified botulinum so your wrinkles appear smoother and softer. At Pacific Skin and Cosmetic Dermatology Corte Madera, we provide a number of aesthetic and dermatology procedures similar to Xeomin nonsurgical wrinkle relaxing treatments. Arrange for a consultation with our board-certified dermatologist and medical director, Dr. Tracy Evans, for more information about Xeomin.

Ideal Candidates

Xeomin helps to diminish the look of dynamic wrinkles on the face, including frown lines, forehead lines, and Crow's feet. Ideal candidates for Xeomin are in good overall health, are not currently pregnant, and have never had an allergic reaction to any other botulinum toxin products, including BOTOX and Dysport.

Xeomin does not contain any additives, like BOTOX and Dysport, so it could be the solution for you if your body has developed antibodies to these additives. Speak with Dr. Evans at your consultation about your aesthetic goals, current medications, and medical history so she can create a Xeomin treatment plan that is specific to you.

Procedure Technique

Xeomin injections typically take less than 30 minutes from beginning to end and are performed in a relaxing treatment room in our Corte Madera office. The parts of your face receiving treatment will be sterilized before the Xeomin is gently injected with a fine dermal needle. The procedure is fast and generally does not cause great discomfort so local anesthesia is not usually necessary. We will apply cold compresses and pressure to the injections sites to prevent minor bleeding and reduce swelling prior to your return home.

What to Expect

You will be able to leave our office right after receiving your Xeomin injections to return to your daily activities; however, vigorous exercise should be skipped until the next day. We usually recommend that you sleep in a slightly elevated position and apply cold compresses as needed to expedite your recovery and results. After a Xeomin treatment, you may experience some bruising, swelling, and redness near the treatment areas, but this is no cause for concern and can be easily covered up with makeup. Many individuals will notice marked improvements about four days after their Xeomin treatment that will last approximately three months. Touch-up injections at Pacific Skin and Cosmetic Dermatology Corte Madera can be arranged to optimize your results.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Xeomin cost?
Costs for a Xeomin treatment will vary based on the amount required to achieve your specific goals. When you come in for your consultation, Dr. Evans or a member of her professional team will talk to you about your concerns so we can create your unique injection plan. Pacific Skin and Cosmetic Dermatology Corte Madera takes several payment methods and sometimes has specials on Xeomin and other nonsurgical treatments.

Should I get Xeomin or BOTOX?
BOTOX and Xeomin are both botulinum toxin wrinkle relaxers. The medical professionals at Pacific Skin and Cosmetic Dermatology Corte Madera know the subtle differences between these wrinkle treatments so they can help you decide which will deliver your desired results. We will go over all of your cosmetic goals, allergies, and medical history at your consultation as part of determining which brand is best for you.

Should I get Xeomin or fillers?
Injectable wrinkle relaxers, like Xeomin, address dynamic wrinkles, like frown lines and Crow's feet. A dermal filler improves static wrinkles by adding volume under the wrinkle. It is important to tell Dr. Evans exactly what kind of results you are hoping for so she can decide whether you need Xeomin, a filler, or both.

Is Xeomin safe?
Xeomin has been approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) as a cosmetic treatment for certain areas of the face and can be used safely on most men and women. To determine if Xeomin is right for you, we will ask you about any allergies you have, as well as which prescription medications, supplements, and herbs you might be using. You need to be honest to avoid side effects or complications.

How often should I get Xeomin injections?
Xeomin results may be visible for up to 90 days. Different men and women metabolize Xeomin differently, which means that the results will have shorter or longer durations for each patient. We discuss maintenance injection schedules with each patient based on their unique goals and how long their results typically last.

Smooth and Relaxed

If you are ready to release and smooth out your dynamic facial wrinkles, Xeomin wrinkle relaxer treatments at Pacific Skin and Cosmetic Dermatology may be your solution. Xeomin is one of only three FDA-approved cosmetic wrinkle relaxers, and it is the only one that does not contain extra additives. Set up your consultation with Dr. Tracy Evans at Pacific Skin and Cosmetic Dermatology in Marin to see what Xeomin, BOTOX, or Dysport might do for you.
